Fall Reset: New Routines, Better Recovery & Improved Performance

Team Complete Athlete!
As we transition into fall, many of us are adjusting to new schedules, back to school, new teams, practices, work commitments and changing routines.
Transitions aren’t always easy. Even positive changes can create stress while our brain and body adjust to a new rhythm. This is a great time to be intentional about the routines and habits we are creating instead of simply hoping everything falls into place.
Over the next few weeks, I’ll be sending out a few practical tools from The Complete Athlete to help athletes, first responders and families navigate this transition, manage pressure, improve recovery and create routines that support both performance and overall well-being.
The first is our new Breathwork & Sleep Protocol Worksheet.
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned through my years as an athlete, coach, firefighter and now Mental Performance Coach is this:
We spend a lot of time learning how to turn it ON. We don’t spend nearly enough time learning how to turn it OFF.
Athletes need to compete under pressure. First responders need to perform when the call comes in. Adrenaline, intensity and heightened focus can help us perform when it matters.
But what happens when the game, practice, shift or call is over?
I learned personally that just because the event is over doesn’t necessarily mean your brain and body know it’s over.
That’s why nervous system regulation, recovery and sleep are such important parts of The Complete Athlete approach.
Quality sleep affects our ability to learn, think clearly, make decisions, regulate emotions, recover physically and support our overall physical and mental health. If we want consistent performance, we need to take recovery as seriously as we take training.
The new worksheet gives you practical tools including the Physiological Sigh, Box Breathing, 4–7–8 Breathing and NSDR (Non-Sleep Deep Rest), along with when, why and how to use each one. (attached at the bottom)
But remember—the tool is only part of the process.
My goal is to help you create:
Routines → Habits → Results
We practice these skills when things are going well so that when the pressure arrives, our brain and body have a familiar system to come back to.
Pressure → Breath → Regulation → Clear Thinking → Intentional Response
A Few Complete Athlete Updates
Our 1:1 Mental Performance Coaching schedule has changed slightly for the fall. Please check The Complete Athlete website for current availability and to book your next session.
For team, coach, parent or association workshops, please contact me directly. I’m continuing to work with teams and organizations to bring practical mental performance tools directly into their programs.
And finally, the Monthly Mental Strength Club will be opening again soon! I’ll be sharing more information shortly for athletes and families interested in ongoing mental performance development and support.
Fall is a transition—but it’s also an opportunity to reset, build new routines and be intentional about how we want to show up.
That’s what being a Complete Athlete is about.
Not just performing better.
Building stronger PEOPLE first.
